The Crusades

The crusades were a series of Holy wars fouhgt over the City of Jeruselum and surrounding territories (the Holy land) of the nine crusades only one succeded. the first crusade succeded because Europe used the elemnt of surprise to take the city, but lost it in the second crusade, and failed to reclaim it on subsequent crusades. the reson for the crusades was the fear the byzantine empire had on the encrouchment of the Islamic world into its territoy. The emperor was able to convince the pope to fight back against the spread of the Islamic world and even attempt to reclaim Jueruslem a city of great value to the people of the Christian Faith.
