Feudalism was the system that medieval European societies abided by for centuries the hierarchy/ structure of power went as followed, the King (and sometimes the queen) held the top position of power. then the lords (knights/those who fight) would hold land that would have been granted to them by their king or birthright and maintain it passing along wealth/ tribute to the king. The priest of the church was on the same level as the noble lords they just maintain the land for the church rather than the king. and finally, the peasantry/ surfs, were the majority of the population who worked the land the lords were given, serfs were often tied to the land meaning they would work there akin to slaves. in times of conflict kings would call apon lords to gather their pesants and raise and army to fight.
