project proposal.

Step 1: My topic of interest: History of medieval Europe told through the lens of art

Step 2: Use one technique to explore your topic: free writing, 5Ws, or mind mapping:

  • People who struggle to learn history through textbooks or lectures
  • People with an interest in history/art
  •  the topic is influenced by art and my love for history
  • It will always be relevant as long as someone is interested in history or art
  • My topic is relevant in a broader sense of the academic world because it will be a little easier to digest and understand.

Step 3: My preliminary research question: Can the history of medieval Europe be told through the lens of its art?

Step 4: Based on your exploration of this topic so far, what do you need to learn more about in order to answer your research question? Write down at least two aspects of your topic that need further research

  • Art from the time period
  • Any history related to the art work

Step 5: Is this a good research question?

  • I believe it is both g good question and a question with a fun answer

Of the sources I found I chose three from the Gmu library and the two images I picked were found when I did a web search. I found the image I liked, followed it to the website and made a citation for the image because I thought it fit pretty well for the project Idea. the image on source four is Hieronymus bosch’s Garden of earthly delights and the reason for choosing this image from this painter is because in medieval Europe religion played an important role in the day to day lives for everyone from commoner to king. The painting depicts the biblical story of eden, the earth, and hell.  The image from source five depicts a duel which in medieval europe was both a way to dish out justice, and a sport ment for the entertainment of the people.

The Idea I have for my project of telling the history of medieval europe through its artwork is what I believe to be a fun/entertaining way of telling the most fantasized and romanticized part of human history.
