750 - 12 June 816. Pope Leo III Was the Pope responisble of Crowning charlemagne Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire on December 25, 800 CE. Pope Leo III's and Charlemagne came up with the agreement that The Church would grant him the Tilte of Emperor to further legitimize his rule, and charlemagne would aid in protecting the church. Unfortunatly this event would lead to the circular division of power that plaugued the emperors of Europe and the Catholic church forever begging the question who had power over who.
